Indira Johnson makes found object sculptures and occasional paintings, which explore Buddhist philosophy.
Ben Gest is a Chicago artist who produces large digitally enhanced photographs that deal with everyday domestic situations with a surreal twist.
Jeff Carter's sculpture, which is frequently kinetic, investigates tourism, landscape and memory, fluidly defining landscape as a shifting space that alternates between the actual location and the memories surrounding it.

Panelists who have occupied dual and triple roles will address questions such as: How does one maintain objectivity and fairness when in decision-making positions? Under what conditions can overlapping responsibilities serve to promote one's own career or that of one's friends? How does the performance of varied roles affect one's work?

This is the third in an ongoing series of monthly talks sponsored by the Chicago Art Critics Association.

This talk will focus on art works that physically incorporate actual pieces of nature, such as growing plants. There will also be some discussion of art that attempts to acknowledge nature in other ways, and some discussion of the relationship between such works and ecological principles. The works by Michael Paha that include running water and growing plants now in Perimeter gallery will provide a backdrop for the talk; slides of other works will be shown, and reference will be made to related shows currently on view in Chicago, such as the exhibit, "Botanica: Contemporary Art and the World of Plants," now at the Chicago Cultural Center. The speaker will argue that eco-centric art can be seen as a challenge, from an ethical point of view, to other modes of contemporary art practice.

The talk will last approximately thirty minutes, and will be followed by a general discussion with the audience.
